New Mendrisio-Stabio railway line, n° 634, km 0.745 – km 6.549 (sections B, C and D)

MAIN WORKS:

Works regarded the new “FMV” railway line that will connect the Gottardo line (south to the Mendrisio train station) to the Varese-Porto Ceresio line. To this end, it was necessary to adjust the existing section and build the new part of the new section (in Switzerland).

The works carried out included the construction of the electrified railway track, starting from the branching of the Gottardo line (km 0.745) to the borders situated at km 6.549 in Gaggiolo, in the town of Stabio.

Works included:
- Execution of the railway rolling stock including substructure, asphalt platform and pre-ballasting;
- Execution of various constructions, foundations for piles of the contact line and signals
- Construction of bridges over rivers Laveggio and Gaggiolo;
- Construction of under-crossings Gerette, S.Margherita and Nodo Puntasei and road works and related accessory works.
